What a relief print

I'm all in favour of the self-publishing revolution... in theory. In practice, I find dealing with dpi, formatting issues, printer calibration etc. etc. astonishingly difficult, distressing and boring, and I'd much rather have some specialist do it for me. But here's some DIY culture I can get behind. I've spent the weekend doing linocut prints of my son. Happy 11th week birthday.

Houzing Houndz

I've been off on paternity leave. But I haven't completely stopped drawing. Here's a monthly comic strip I've been doing for the social housing trade magazine 24 Housing. Social housing is my day job, so you can be assured that this is exactly what life is like in Britain's housing estates. Except for the dog thing.

Here's the full version of a comic I drew last year about a bike race, for The Ride Journal.

Bad Day at Black Rock

I entered the Little White Lies "creative brief" competition, in which the idea was to turn a film into a one-page comic with a set panel layout. I chose the 1955 John Sturges masterpiece Bad Day at Black Rock.

Viewfinder

Here's a panel from a comic I've drawn from a script by Will Wiles, which will be appearing in the February edition of Icon Magazine, out very soon. It's about the increasing criminalisation of photography in British public space, a question which suddenly became much more topical while we were working on the comic. See here for more on the subject.

Joined up inking

So I'm Tweeting Woodrow Phoenix, asking for some advice on looking after paintbrushes, and he Tweets me back, totally solving my problem.

Then I notice, he's Tweeting in haiku form.
